Introduction of Aerodrome Standards (AS) Branch

The Aerodrome Standards (AS) Branch has primary responsibility for all functions related to Safety Oversight Audit / Inspections in the following areas for maintenance of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) in accordance with National Rules & regulations.

  • Aerodrome Operations & Design
  • Fire & Safety Standards including Special Vehicles / Fire Tenders.
  • Electrical Engineering Standardsfor design, configuration and operations criteria of electrical systems for aerodromes including Visual-Aids (AFL systems).
  • Civil Engineering Standards including markings and signology.

The Aerodrome Standards (AS) Branch is also responsible for Aerodrome Certification and Private Airstrips / Heliports Licensing Program.

Other roles and functions of Aerodrome Standards (AS) Branch are:
  • Management of Obstacle Limitation Surfaces (OLS) in accordance with National Airfield Clearance Policy (NACP) and issuance of height clearance NOC’s.
  • Develop National regulations by adopting or exceeding from ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) contained in the relevant Annexes to the Convention and file difference, if any on as required basis.
  • Review and promulgate Safety Standards through Air Navigation Orders, Safety Directives and Air Safety Circulars.
